The Problem

Soil Moisture Swings Destroy Foundations

When soil around a foundation dries and contracts, it causes movement — leading to cracks, door and window misalignment, and structural settlement. Most damage occurs gradually and invisibly, long before it becomes visible.

Conversely, over-saturated soil expands and destabilizes, or channels water into basements and crawl spaces, creating mold and long-term structural risk.

Typical foundation repair costs. Continuous monitoring makes prevention practical and affordable.

AI-Powered Platform

Why AI Changes Everything for Foundation Protection

Traditional foundation maintenance is purely reactive. By the time cracks appear or settlement is visible, significant damage has already occurred — usually from months of gradual, undetected soil moisture change around the perimeter.

Drip Defender shifts this entirely. The TI cloud AI continuously monitors moisture trends and detects dangerous conditions before damage can begin — turning protection from costly repair into proactive prevention.

Trend Detection, Not Just Threshold Alerts

The platform tracks moisture rate-of-change alongside absolute levels. Rapid drying after a heat event triggers alerts before soil reaches critical shrinkage — giving you time to respond.

Predictive Risk Assessment

Each night at 2am UTC, the platform retrieves the next day's hyperlocal weather forecast using each device's GPS coordinates — generating unique micro-weather predictions per location. Approaching drought conditions or extended dry periods trigger proactive threshold adjustments before dangerous moisture swings begin. After 90 days of sensor history, a site-specific ML model is layered into the nightly forecast alongside ongoing sensor readings, continuously improving prediction accuracy.

Full-Perimeter Intelligence

Each device places one sensor at an ideal location along the foundation perimeter, monitoring that exact spot independently. Deploying multiple devices around the perimeter gives you full visibility into localized problem zones that a single device or periodic manual inspection would never detect.

Traditional Approach

  • Reactive — damage only discovered after it appears
  • No early warning — no sensors, no trend monitoring
  • Periodic manual inspection — incomplete and infrequent
  • Weather blind — no forecast integration
  • Single-point — misses localized moisture zones

Drip Defender AI Platform

  • Proactive — detects dangerous trends before damage starts
  • 24/7 continuous automated perimeter monitoring
  • Predictive — weather-aware risk forecasting
  • Full-perimeter — covers all foundation zones
  • Self-documenting — verifiable data for insurance & warranty

Platform Capabilities

The full sensor-to-cloud stack that makes proactive foundation protection possible — managed through a Progressive Web App on any device.

Perimeter Soil Monitoring

Continuous moisture and temperature readings at the foundation perimeter. The included sensor cable is 6 feet — sufficient for most installations. Depth can be extended by splicing a standard 4-conductor cable, or by purchasing the optional 20-foot sensor cable.

Platform Intelligence

The TI cloud platform combines sensor readings with weather data and historical trends to identify risk conditions and trigger automated irrigation response. A machine learning model continuously refines risk thresholds based on your site's historical moisture patterns, improving detection accuracy over time.

Real-Time Alerts

Immediate push notifications for moisture threshold crossings, device faults, freeze conditions, and online/offline status changes. Receive critical, major, and warning alerts with severity context before conditions worsen.

Flexible Connectivity

Connects over WiFi where signal is strong. For larger properties, a device can be configured as a Hub — combining WiFi and long-range LoRa radio to extend wireless coverage up to 1 mile (1.6 km) with no extra wiring, supporting up to 20 additional devices.

Battery Backup

Internal battery keeps each device communicating and sending alerts for up to 24 hours after external power is lost. Standard 24 VAC solenoids close automatically on power loss. Note: latching solenoids retain their last state during a power outage — an open valve stays open until manually closed or power is restored. If using latching solenoids, a master shutoff valve upstream of all devices is strongly recommended to cut water flow across the entire system during an outage.

Cloud Data Logging

Full historical record of soil moisture trends, watering events, and alert history. Data export for insurance documentation and warranty support is coming soon and may require an additional fee.

Dual-Radio Wireless Platform

Every Drip Defender device has two built-in radios — 2.4 GHz WiFi and long-range LoRa. The device connects automatically, preferring WiFi when available and falling back to LoRa when out of range. All sensors, solenoid control, and monitoring capabilities work in every mode.

Auto — Primary

WiFi Role

Device connects directly to your 2.4 GHz WiFi network. Typical range is up to ~100 ft (30 m) depending on obstacles. WiFi provides the highest data rate — required for firmware updates and diagnostic log capture. All standard monitoring and control functions operate normally.

Auto — Fallback

Node Role

When no paired WiFi network is in range, the device automatically connects via LoRa to any Hub within range — including hubs on neighboring properties. LoRa supports all normal BAU operations. Firmware updates and log capture require a WiFi connection and can be deferred until WiFi is restored.

Manual — App Config

Hub Role

Manually enabled per device in the app. In Hub mode, the device uses WiFi as its primary cloud connection and simultaneously listens for Node devices over LoRa, acting as a gateway. For best performance, up to 5 Nodes per Hub is recommended to avoid overloading packet processing. Larger deployments benefit from multiple Hubs — each placed within WiFi range at different points around the property — distributing the Node load and extending LoRa coverage across the full perimeter. LoRa range is up to 1 mile (1.6 km) per Hub under open conditions — actual range varies depending on vegetation, structures, and terrain. Nodes cannot connect to the cloud directly — they rely on a Hub.

All devices must be initially provisioned to a 2.4 GHz WiFi network using the included USB cable and power pack. The device stores the WiFi SSID and password. If the SSID changes, re-provisioning is required — historical data and device settings are preserved.

The Drip Defender Device

Every unit is identical hardware. The role it plays — WiFi, Node, or Hub — is determined automatically by signal availability, or manually via the app for Hub mode. All devices include full sensor and solenoid capabilities.
