Installing the App on Any Device

The Telemetry Insights app installs directly from your browser, no App Store, no Google Play, no waiting for downloads. It runs on any device with a browser: iPhone, iPad, Android, Windows PC, Mac, Chromebook, or any tablet. Once installed it works exactly like a native app, home screen icon, full-screen experience, and push notifications.

Why no App Store? Because you always get the latest version the moment we ship it, bug fixes reach you in hours instead of days, and it works on every device you own without separate downloads. If you ever delete it, reinstalling takes 10 seconds. All your data is in the cloud.

The app works in any browser without installing. Installing it adds the home screen icon and enables push notifications.

Enable push notifications immediately after installing. Push notifications are how you get alerted the moment a device goes offline, a soil moisture alarm fires, or a freeze warning triggers, even when the app is in the background. After installing, open the app from the home screen icon, go to Notifications → Settings, and tap Enable Push Notifications. When your device asks for permission, tap Allow.


iPhone / iPad

Important: You must use Safari to install the app on iPhone or iPad. Chrome and Firefox on iOS cannot install apps to your home screen, this is a limitation of iOS, not our app.

Requires iOS 16.4 or later.

  1. Open Safari and go to app.telemetryinsights.com. Sign in to your account.
  2. Tap the Share button, the box with an arrow pointing up (⬆), located at the bottom of the Safari toolbar.
  3. Scroll down the share sheet and tap "Add to Home Screen".
  4. Give the app a name (or leave it as-is) and tap Add in the top right.
  5. The Telemetry Insights icon appears on your home screen.

Always open the app from the home screen icon, not from Safari, to get the full-screen experience and push notifications.


Android

  1. Open Chrome and go to app.telemetryinsights.com. Sign in to your account.
  2. Tap the three-dot menu ⋮ in the top right corner of Chrome.
  3. Tap "Add to Home Screen" or "Install App", the label varies by Android version.
  4. Tap Install to confirm.
  5. The app icon appears on your home screen.

Open the app from the home screen icon for the full experience.


Windows (PC)

Works with Chrome or Microsoft Edge.

  1. Open Chrome or Edge and go to app.telemetryinsights.com. Sign in to your account.
  2. Look for the install icon in the address bar, a monitor with a down arrow (⬇). In Edge you can also use the three-dot menu → Apps → Install this site as an app.
  3. Click Install.
  4. The app opens in its own window and is added to your taskbar and Start menu.

Mac

Works with Chrome, Edge, or Safari (macOS Sonoma 14+ for Safari).

Using Chrome or Edge

  1. Open Chrome or Edge and go to app.telemetryinsights.com. Sign in.
  2. Click the install icon in the address bar.
  3. Click Install. The app appears in your Applications folder and Dock.

Using Safari (macOS Sonoma 14+)

  1. Open Safari and go to app.telemetryinsights.com. Sign in.
  2. Click the Share button in the toolbar.
  3. Select "Add to Dock".

Enable Push Notifications

Push notifications alert you the moment an alarm fires, even when the app is closed or in the background. This works on all platforms after installation.

iPhone / iPad: You must open the app from your home screen icon first. The notification permission prompt will not appear when the app is open in Safari.

  1. Open the app from your home screen icon (or from your taskbar or Dock on desktop).
  2. Go to Notifications → Settings in the app navigation.
  3. Tap or click Enable Push Notifications.
  4. When your device asks for permission, tap Allow.

Once enabled, you'll receive alerts for:

  • Watering events (start, stop, duration)
  • Device online / offline status changes
  • Soil moisture threshold warnings (critical, major, warning)
  • Freeze warnings and temperature alerts
  • Battery and power alerts

Troubleshooting

The install option doesn't appear in my browser. Make sure you are using a supported browser:

  • iPhone / iPad: Safari only
  • Android: Chrome recommended
  • Windows: Chrome or Microsoft Edge
  • Mac: Chrome, Edge, or Safari (Sonoma 14+)

I installed the app but don't see the home screen icon. Check your home screen, some Android devices add the icon to the app drawer, not the primary home screen. On iPhone, it appears on the next available home screen page.

I'm not receiving push notifications after enabling them. Make sure you opened the app from the home screen icon (not from Safari). Go to your device's system settings → Notifications → Telemetry Insights and confirm notifications are set to Allow. On iPhone, you may need to re-enable this in Settings → Telemetry Insights.

I already use the web app in my browser. Do I need to reinstall? No. The browser version and the installed version are the same app, your account, data, and settings are identical. Installing just adds the home screen icon and enables push notifications.
